Welcome to HelpfulSeniorCitizen.com!

I’m Bob—known as KBob to family and friends. I’m 71 years old, almost 72, and I’m still working, still learning, and still figuring things out.
I created HelpfulSeniorCitizen.com to offer practical, respectful, and honest perspectives for those of us navigating life after 60—especially if this stage of life hasn’t unfolded the way you expected.
This site isn’t about hype, shortcuts, or pretending everything is figured out. It’s about staying engaged, staying useful, and continuing to grow—one step at a time.
Why This Site Exists
Helpful Senior Citizen exists because a lot of people over 60 are quietly reassessing their lives.
Some of us are still working.
Some of us can’t retire yet.
Some of us don’t want to slow down.
Some of us are simply trying to make sense of what comes next.
I wanted to create a space that respects that reality.
Much of what I share here is shaped by what I call the 5 Fs—a simple way I think about life:
- Food
- Fitness
- Finances
- Fulfillment
- Fun
These aren’t rules or a system. They’re just a lens I use to stay balanced and grounded as I move through this stage of life myself.
A Bit About Me
I was born in 1954 as the eldest of eight siblings, earning the nickname KBob as part of our family’s long line of “K” names. I was always curious—drawn to learning, reading, and figuring things out.
My path wasn’t linear. I graduated high school early, started college, stepped away, and eventually returned in my 30s. By my mid-50s, I had earned a bachelor’s degree, a teaching credential, and a master’s degree.
Along the way, life happened—marriage, divorce, parenthood, career changes, and recovery from substance abuse. I’ve been clean and sober since 1993, guided by the principles of the 12-step program, which still shape how I live and think today.
In my 60s, I found deep meaning teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults—a profession I continue to this day. Teaching grounded me and reminded me that learning is human, slow, and deeply worthwhile.
Learning, Adapting, and the Online World
Long before the pandemic, I threw myself into the online world, believing effort alone would be enough to build something meaningful. I learned—sometimes the hard way—that timing, finances, structure, and patience matter just as much as motivation.
Over the years, I’ve continued learning about online work and digital tools, including affiliate marketing. Some things worked, some didn’t, and many lessons came later than I expected.
What I know now is this: there are no shortcuts—but there are honest ways to learn, adapt, and keep moving forward.
Where I Am Now
I’m not retired. I’ve never been retired.
I’m still teaching.
Still learning.
Still adjusting.
Helpful Senior Citizen is a place where I share what I’m learning as I go—without pretending I’ve arrived, and without talking down to anyone.
If you’re in a similar place—still trying, still reassessing, still wanting to live well and with purpose—you’re welcome here.
You’re not broken.
You’re human.
And you’re not alone.
